Installation Guide

Concrete ranch rail fence installs faster than you think. Posts set in concrete footings, rails slide into slots from the top — no mortar, no fasteners.

1

Plan & Layout

Mark post locations every 8 feet along your fence line. Use stakes and string to establish a straight reference line. Account for corners and gate openings in your layout. Verify property lines before digging.

Pro Tips

  • Use spray paint to mark each post location
  • Add an extra 4 inches of width at gate openings
  • Confirm all underground utilities are marked (call 811)
2

Dig Post Holes

Dig each post hole to a minimum of 2 feet deep with a 10-inch diameter. In sandy Florida soil, consider going 6 inches deeper for extra stability. Remove loose soil from the bottom of each hole.

Pro Tips

  • Use a post hole digger or power auger
  • Keep holes as vertical as possible
  • Add 2-3 inches of gravel at the bottom for drainage
3

Set Posts

Place each post in its hole and plumb it with a level on two adjacent sides. Pour 2 bags of 60-lb fast-set concrete per post, adding water as directed. Brace the post and let it cure for a minimum of 24 hours before installing rails.

Pro Tips

  • Use temporary 2x4 braces to hold posts plumb while curing
  • Check plumb again after adding concrete
  • Do not disturb posts during the 24-hour cure period
4

Install Rails

Once posts are fully cured, slide the concrete rails into the post slots from the top. Rails drop into place by gravity. No mortar, adhesive, or mechanical fasteners are needed. The weight of the concrete rails holds them securely in the slots.

Pro Tips

  • Start from one end and work sequentially
  • Install bottom rail first, then work upward
  • Use a helper — each rail weighs approximately 75-100 lbs
5

Final Inspection

Walk the entire fence line and verify all posts are plumb and rails are fully seated in their slots. Check for any gaps between rails and posts. Clean up any excess concrete or disturbed soil around the post bases.

Pro Tips

  • Re-check plumb on every post with a level
  • Ensure rails sit evenly and do not rock
  • Backfill around post bases and tamp firmly
